iOS 26 Home app guide: Apple release notes, compatible iPhones, after upgrade

Official iOS 26 Home app features and what to do right after you upgrade.

Already on iOS 26 and wondering what changed in the Home app? Start with Apple's release notes for Home, then open the app to set up Apple Intelligence options — camera descriptions, grouped notifications, and natural-language search depend on model, home hub, iCloud+, and region.

This release guide cites only Apple's newsroom and iPhone User Guide for iOS 26 Home app features, compatible iPhones, and the path after you install iOS 26. (Do not confuse the Home app with Home Screen widget updates.)

What Apple ships in the Home app on iOS 26

Apple's "What's new in iOS 26" article highlights Home updates for smart home users. Points below come from Apple release notes and "Use Apple Intelligence with Home cameras and notifications."

01

Streamlined activity notifications

Apple states Apple Intelligence in the Home app combines and streamlines related activity notifications. The detailed guide adds that similar alerts — such as a door locking and unlocking repeatedly — can be grouped so you get fewer notifications, with a Reduce Notifications toggle in Home Settings.

02

Descriptions before you watch

Release notes say Apple Intelligence describes what happened in video footage before you watch. Apple Support explains searchable video descriptions for recorded clips from compatible Home cameras.

03

Search clips by what happened

Apple documents searching for a video clip based on what happened. The User Guide notes natural-language search once video descriptions are enabled under the conditions Apple lists.

04

Liquid Glass design

Apple's June 2025 newsroom preview describes Liquid Glass as a system-wide iOS 26 design refresh across controls and navigation. The Home app picks up the updated look with the OS.

05

Home hub and iCloud+ requirements

Apple Support requires a home hub — HomePod (2nd generation), HomePod mini, or Apple TV 4K on the latest OS — plus an Apple Intelligence–enabled iPhone for the home owner, Apple Intelligence turned on in the Home app, and a 2TB iCloud+ subscription for these AI features.

Which iPhones get these updates

Home app updates ship with iOS 26. Apple Support's "How to download iOS 26" lists iPhone 11 and later plus iPhone SE (2nd generation and later).

Apple Intelligence Home features additionally need iPhones on Apple's Apple Intelligence list (such as iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max and iPhone 16 and later) with Apple Intelligence enabled. See our Apple Intelligence setup guide and support.apple.com/121115.
