How to open a Wise Business account on the official Wise site
Official Wise Business sign-up: eligibility, verification, first business transfer.
If a company or sole trader needs a multi-currency account for business payouts and receipts, open official Wise Business — do not run company money through a personal account. The legitimate path is wise.com or the official app: apply with an authorised person, finish business and identity checks, then send one real business transfer.
This walkthrough follows Wise Help for opening a Wise Business account on the official site: eligibility, sign-up, verification, first business payment. It does not cover agents, forged registry papers, or someone else’s ID.
What Wise Business actually does
Licensed Wise entities offer personal and business accounts. Business is for getting paid, paying suppliers, holding balances in many currencies, and — in some regions — receiving account details. Availability, any one-time setup fee, and supported entity types depend on the country of registration. Trust the in-account prompts and Help.
Country and entity type first
Freelancers, sole traders, partnerships, limited companies, and some non-profits may qualify, but activity and Wise’s acceptable-use rules also matter. Trusts are supported only in listed countries.
Verification covers the firm and key people
Expect a registration number, registered and trading addresses, industry, online presence if any, and directors or owners. If you are not a director, upload proof you may open the account.
A fee or first transfer starts the main review
Help notes a mandatory one-time fee in some regions (including the UK, EEA, Switzerland, and Brazil). Elsewhere you may pay to unlock features or set up a transfer. Extra review often takes working days. Approval is not guaranteed.
Six official steps
The sequence matches Wise Help articles “How do I open a Wise account for my business” and “How can I verify my business”. Menu labels differ by country and app version.
-
1
Confirm country and entity type on the official site
Open wise.com or wise.com/business. Read whether Business is offered, any setup fee, and acceptable use. Do not force a restricted industry. Do not install “account agent” apps from unknown links.
-
2
Register on the official website or app
Choose Open a business account. If you already have a personal Wise login, you can link the business profile to the same sign-in. Enter only real company data and an authorised opener.
-
3
Submit business and key-person details
Add registration number, addresses, industry, website if you have one, and directors or owners. Non-directors upload a signed authorisation, power of attorney, or board resolution as prompted. Documents stay in the official flow.
-
4
Finish the opener’s identity check
Photograph or upload a government ID and a selfie when asked. An already-verified personal Wise profile may skip some personal steps, but the business still needs its own review. Extra files only via official email, push, or app.
-
5
Pay the one-time fee or start the first transfer
Pay first where the fee is mandatory. Elsewhere follow the prompt to pay or create a transfer. That triggers fuller review. Help says extra review usually takes up to 10 working days; a transfer may pause until verification finishes.
-
6
After approval, send one real business payment
Pay a recognizable supplier or employee and state the purpose. Check the FX and fee confirmation screen. Do not lend the business account for unrelated personal receipts. Fees are on the confirmation page.
Where applications and first transfers stall
| Item | Common mistake | Official path |
|---|---|---|
| Account type | Take company receipts on a personal account | Use Business for company flows and finish firm checks |
| Eligibility | Assume every company and industry can open | Follow the country page, entity type, and acceptable use |
| Authority | Staff open with a director’s ID without permission | Non-directors upload the authorisation Wise asks for |
| Verification | Pay an agent to “guarantee approval” | Upload extras only in the official flow; no promise of approval |
After the account, keep huddles light
When you need to compare an invoice or the first transfer screen, skip another meeting install. Open figmeet · guide · features.

Open on the official site with real company data and an authorised person. Shortcuts usually breach the customer agreement and can restrict the account.
- Licence and protection
- Protection depends on the Wise entity that serves you and local rules. Business balances are typically not traditional bank deposit insurance. Tax follows the place of registration and residence.
- Personal and Business stay separate
- An existing personal Wise login only shares sign-in. Company receipts and supplier payments belong on a verified Business account.
Still stuck?
Can I use personal Wise as a company account?
Do not treat a personal account as a company receiving tool. Open Business as Help describes; you can link the same login. Business verification is still separate.
Can a non-director open the account?
Yes, if you upload proof of authority such as a signed letter, power of attorney, or board resolution. Follow the in-account list.
Is the one-time setup fee always required?
It is mandatory in some regions. Elsewhere you may pay to unlock features or start a transfer first. Follow sign-up and Help for your country.
How long does verification take? Is approval guaranteed?
Help says extra review usually takes up to 10 working days. Approval is not guaranteed. If Wise asks for more files or declines, use official channels only — no agents.
