How to open a Revolut account and order the Revolut card

Official sign-up, your own ID check, card order, first top-up. Residence must be real; Revolut decides approval.

If you need to hold several currencies, convert money, or pay an overseas subscription, the search is usually how to open Revolut. The only legitimate path is the official site or app: register with your own details, finish identity checks, then order a card and make a first top-up.

This walkthrough follows Revolut Help for opening a Revolut account and ordering the Revolut card: sign-up, verification, card, first top-up. It does not cover proxies, fake residency, or someone else’s ID.

What a Revolut account actually does

Different licensed entities serve different countries. EEA personal customers are often served by Revolut Bank UAB in Lithuania. In the UK, Revolut Ltd is authorised by the FCA as an e-money institution. The US, Australia, Singapore, and Japan have local entities. You can hold currencies, convert, send money, and use cards — it is not one global high-street savings bank.

01

A personal account is only for you

You typically open one personal account, only for yourself. Personal flows stay on the personal account. Business income needs Revolut Business and company documents.

02

The plan sets limits and card extras

Standard is usually free. Paid plans raise exchange and ATM limits and may include a metal card or extra cover. Fees and allowances sit on the local pricing page; read the confirmation screen before you pay.

03

Cards depend on residence and checks

In many countries you can create a virtual card for Apple Pay or Google Pay after verification. A physical card is a separate order; Standard often charges delivery. Confirm the supported-countries list in Help.

Six official steps

The sequence matches the public sign-up flow and identity articles on help.revolut.com. Labels can differ by country. Trust the prompts inside your account.

  1. 1

Register only on revolut.com or the official app

Open revolut.com or the official Revolut app from an app store. Verify a phone number, add an email, and set a password. Enter the country you actually live in. Do not install “fast KYC” APKs from unknown links.

  2. 2

    Enter legal identity details

Legal name, date of birth, and address must match your ID. Complete tax-residency fields as asked. Keep the name aligned with the bank account you will use to add money, so inbound transfers are less likely to bounce.

  3. 3

    Complete verification when asked

Usually a passport bio page or national ID (both sides) plus an in-app selfie with liveness. You may also need a recent bill as proof of address. Upload only in the app flow — not to a stranger’s email. Revolut can request more documents or decline. There is no guaranteed approval.

  4. 4

Wait until the account is activated

Full exchange, transfers, and cards usually wait until checks finish. Some features stay locked during a risk review. If Revolut asks for more files, upload them only in the official app.

  5. 5

Order a virtual or physical card

Open Cards. A virtual card is often instant. For plastic, enter an address where you can receive mail, confirm the delivery fee, then order. Activate with the CVV or the in-app toggle as instructed.

  6. 6

    Make the first top-up

Tap Add money and use a bank transfer or card if your region offers it. Then convert or send a small amount. The confirmation screen lists fees. Confirm only after you read them.

Finish verification with your real country of residence and your own ID. Shortcuts usually breach the customer agreement and can restrict the account.

Licence and protection
Protection depends on the entity that serves you. Some EEA customers may have deposit-guarantee cover; UK e-money customers have safeguarded funds under FCA rules, which is not the same as bank deposit insurance. Tax follows your country of residence.
Keep personal and business separate
Personal flows stay on the personal account. Business receipts belong on Revolut Business with company documents. Do not mix them.

Still stuck?

Can I open an account without a passport?

Many countries accept a national ID. Revolut lists acceptable documents for your residence. Expired IDs are usually rejected.

How long does verification take? Is approval guaranteed?

Complete files are often faster. Extra documents, address checks, or a risk review take longer. There is no guaranteed pass. Upload extra files only in the official app.

Is Revolut available in every country?

No. After you select your real country of residence, the site or app will either let you continue or stop you. Do not invent a residence to get a card, and do not pay a stranger to open the account.

Must I add money before I order a physical card?

Virtual cards are often created after verification. Delivery fees for plastic may debit your balance or another card at checkout. Fees are on the confirmation screen.
